Shiley School of Engineering computer science professor Andrew Nuxoll has been named a Fulbright Specialist by the Fulbright Specialist Program at World Learning. Nuxoll will take part in a faculty exchange to Thailand for three weeks this July and will teach at Khon Kaen University. During his exchange, Nuxoll will be researching, teaching a workshop, and giving lectures on ethical issues in software and artificial episodic memory.

‘Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead’ February 13-16, 7:30 p.m. and February 16, 2 p.m. In this “unauthorized parody” of an iconic comic strip, CB questions the meaning of life and death following the demise of his dog. His friends have their own problems and aren’t much help. But his interest in an artistic boy — the target of his group’s bullying — sets events in motion that propel teen angst to its very limits. The play explores mature themes that relate to growing up.

The University of Portland is one of the top producers of Fulbright awards in the nation among master’s level institutions, according to an annual study just released by the Chronicle of Higher Education. The University was ranked 4th nationally in student Fulbright awards for the academic year 2018-2019, with 5 students who have received the prestigious grant to study, conduct research, and/or teach English abroad.

Author Colum McCann’s 2009 novel Let the Great World Spin is the 2018-2019 selection for University of Portland’s annual ReadUP campaign and Schoenfeldt Distinguished Visiting Writers series. The lecture will take place in Buckley Auditorium on February 20, at 7 p.m. and is free, and open to the public. McCann will follow the lecture with a book signing.
