Snow Day Essentials According to UP Students
Social Media
February 8, 2019

With the snowy forecasts in the weeks ahead, the social media team reached out to UP students and asked them what they need with them for a cozy, snowy day on The Bluff.
By Josie Hinke ‘22
Hot Chocolate
Far and away the most popular response, UP students seem to love their cocoa. Luckily there seems to be no shortage of hot chocolate on campus; the coffee shops in the Bauccio Commons and Pilot House both serve hot chocolate all year round!
Fuzzy Socks
One of the best ways to stay warm in winter is to keep your toes covered. There’s no better way to do this than with cute and fun fuzzy socks.
Fireplace
Cozying up by a fire is one of the most classic ways to beat the winter chill. If you don’t have access to a fireplace, there are videos of crackling fireplaces all over YouTube. Curl up next to the heater and just pretend!
Camera
Snow photos make great photos. It can be worth facing the cold for a great shot (like this one on our Instagram!)
Good Book
If classes are canceled, then there’s no better way to spend a day to yourself than with a warm blanket and a good book.
Snacks
When it’s cold out, you want to minimize the amount of time you have to spend outside as much as possible. If your room is filled with snacks then you really have no reason to leave, right?
Coffee or Tea
Like hot cocoa, these warm beverages will warm you up from the inside. Fill up a cute mug and keep your hands warm as well!
Gloves
If you do find yourself having to go outside for some reason, it is best to be prepared! The best way to face the cold is by covering as much skin as possible, including your fingers!
More Snow
The only thing that can make a snow day better is even more snow! The thicker the snow the better the snow angels (and snowballs).
Bed
Finally, the ultimate essential is where we plan on spending the majority of a Portland snow day: surrounded by pillows and blankets!
