In a three-year National Science Foundation funded project, UP’s REFLECT team (Redesigning Education for Learning through Evidence and Collaborative Teaching) is informing STEM faculty (science, technology, engineering, math) about how to introduce student-centered, evidence-based learning methodology into their classrooms.

Student club Active Minds is hosting their 2nd Annual Fresh Check Day tomorrow from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. on the Quiet Side of the Bauccio Commons. Fresh Check Day is a mental health fair that combines fun activities with educational information about mental health and suicide awareness. Sherrie Caltagirone founded the Global Emancipation Network (GEN), a Seattle-based nonprofit data clearinghouse that aims to eradicate human trafficking, in 2016. Sherrie knew her husband, Sergio, who works full-time for an industrial cybersecurity firm, could help GEN in uncovering the well-hidden online activities of human traffickers. Sergio, who earned degrees in computer science and theology from UP in 2003, also serves as GEN’s technical director.

We recently caught up with Tyson Reddig ’19 of Actually Gavin Improv to talk about the renaming of the club, their plans for the semester and the art of improv. The improv club at UP has been ‘cracking jokes’ on The Bluff for over 12 years and currently has a rotating cast of 40 students.
