Mai Nhia Xiong-Chan appointed as Vice President for Enrollment Management
Human Resources
President
June 29, 2023
Upon the conclusion of a national search that attracted an exceptionally talented and diverse array of candidates, we are thrilled to announce the appointment of Mai Nhia Xiong-Chan as Vice President for Enrollment Management.
A deeply experienced enrollment management expert with a track record of extraordinary success at optimizing admissions and financial aid outcomes, I am confident that Mai Nhia will be a wonderful leader of our efforts to attract, support, and retain students. Mai Nhia joins us from Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she serves as Vice President of Enrollment Management, Marketing, and Web Services. Among her many accomplishments at Hamline, Mai Nhia matriculated several record-setting first-year classes, surpassed net tuition revenue targets, and increased the number of first-generation and minoritized students. She led Hamline's institutional efforts on topics including tuition setting, discounting, and revenue generation, and also guided digital marketing, recruitment communications, events, and other outreach efforts. She is responsible for creating Hamline's visionary Strategic Enrollment Plan, and she is a nationally recognized speaker on enrollment management, diversity recruitment, and women leaders in higher education.
Prior to joining Hamline, Mai Nhia served as Director of Recruitment at Saint Catherine University, a Catholic institution in Saint Paul founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, an M.A. in Organizational Leadership from Saint Catherine University, and will soon earn her Ed.D. from Hamline University. Mai Nhia is proud to be a first-generation college student, Hmong-American, and daughter of refugees.
Throughout her career, Mai Nhia has built and sustained strong, collaborative, and successful teams. She has also forged positive and productive relationships with stakeholders from across the institutions where she has served to support enrollment management goals. She holds a deep commitment to advancing UP's Catholic, Holy Cross identity and our mission of teaching and learning, faith and formation, and service and leadership.
Mai Nhia will begin her work on The Bluff on August 15. As Vice President for Enrollment Management, she will oversee our Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid, partner closely with staff and faculty across the University who support our enrollment management efforts and serve on the President's Leadership Cabinet.
I hope that you will join me in welcoming Mai Nhia and her family to The Bluff!
