Matthew Deschner appointed Dean of Admissions
President
Admissions
June 29, 2023
Upon the conclusion of a competitive search process, we are thrilled to announce the appointment of Matthew B. Deschner as Dean of Admissions.
Matt first joined us on The Bluff in 2005. For the past eighteen years, he has been an essential member and leader of our Admissions team, as well as a wonderful contributor to our community.
Since October 2022, Matt has served with distinction as Interim Dean of our Office of Admissions. As Interim Dean, Matt oversaw and managed seventeen admissions team members and over forty student-ambassadors. He also collaborated closely with colleagues on the Provost's Council, President's Leadership Cabinet, and among the faculty and staff to envision and execute our admissions strategies. Amid a challenging recruitment cycle, Matt and his team have done remarkable work.
Prior to beginning his tenure as Interim Dean, Matt served as Associate Dean of Admissions. In this role, he provided critical oversight of signature Admissions events, including Weekend on The Bluff and the Catholic Counselor Fly-In Program. He also led key communications and management initiatives, mentored Admissions staff, and engaged in important outreach and cultivation efforts. Matt successfully guided our recruitment efforts in Hawai'i, Guam, Saipan and Micronesia, Nevada, American Samoa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. He holds a B.A. in Spanish and a B.S. in Business Administration, both from Saint Louis University, and an M.B.A. from the University of Portland.
Matt has a deep commitment to our institution's Catholic, Holy Cross mission, and is passionate about our efforts to recruit and support students of diverse backgrounds. He will officially begin his duties as Dean of Admissions and member of the Provost's Council on July 1.
