University of Portland to host “MLK Day On” Virtual Keynote Address, January 18
January 11, 2021
University of Portland’s Office of International Education, Diversity, and Inclusion invites all UP community members to take part in “MLK Day On” a celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 18 from 6 - 7:30 p.m., with a virtual keynote address by Taylor Stewart ’18. Stewart’s work confronts the legacy of racism in Oregon by marking the site of Alonzo Tucker’s 1902 lynching in Coos Bay, OR. Stewart’s efforts serve as a starting point for informing, educating, and inspiring dialogue about race and white supremacy in our community.
Read about Stewart’s work in the Portland Magazine story The Truth About Alonzo and learn more at the Oregon Remembrance Project.
To receive a Zoom link to the virtual keynote address, please RSVP on the MLK Day On Eventbrite site.
For more information, please contact Office of International Education, Diversity, and Inclusion at oiedi@up.edu.
