The Portland Business Journal Forty Under 40 class for 2020 includes University of Portland alumni DJ Widmer ’02 and Rachel Rapinoe ’08. Both were chosen from a pool of 300 Portland-area entrepreneurs, innovators, and rising stars in the local business community.
Widmer is currently global sales manager for ICD, a manufacturer of water-based coatings for glass, metal, and plastic applications for architecture, auto, appliance and solar industries. He joined ICD in November 2019. He was co-founder and sales manager for Keen Mobility from 2002 to 2007, then territory manager for Permobil medical devices company, interim CEO for LFI, vice president of sales and marketing for ecodrycleaner, interim CEO and vice president of business development for Colorhouse, and more. “It’s an honor to represent UP as an alumnus and also as an Entrepreneur Scholars Program alumnus,” he says. “Definitely proud to be a Pilot!”
Rapinoe serves as CEO, co-founder, and head coach for Mendi, a sports-centered CBD company that offers a wide range of all-natural products to help amateur and professional athletes heal and manage pain from the inevitable injuries sustained from playing rough-and-tumble sports like soccer. Her own experiences with multiple injuries and strong over-the-counter and prescription drugs resulted in Rachel retiring from pro soccer to pursue a master’s degree in health and exercise in 2012. Rachel and her twin sister Megan (who also lends her talents to Mendi) helped lead the Pilots to their 2005 NCAA Division 1 championship.
