School of Nursing to add new master's programs

The School of Nursing will add two new master's programs: a master’s of science in innovation in health systems and a master’s of science in quality and safety in health systems. Both master’s programs, which will begin during the Fall 2017 semester, can be completed in five semesters, including one summer session, with online courses and several on-campus immersion sessions.  

The innovation in health systems master’s program is a hands-on degree for nurses with a focus on improving patient, workforce, and organizational outcomes. Graduates with an innovation in health systems degree will be prepared for supervisory and administrative leadership roles and will become experts in efficiency and best practices of inpatient, outpatient, or transitional health systems like rehabilitation or home care. Ethical, analytical, and systems thinking is emphasized in the program to facilitate patient-centered, team-based innovative and collaborative initiatives to meet the demands in evolving health care systems.

The quality and safety in health systems master’s program is the first of its kind in the western United States. Designed for both nurses and non-nurses working in the healthcare industry, the program teaches students to become leaders in improving the safety and quality of healthcare. From risk management and quality improvement to patient safety operations, this degree will help students implement best practices in healthcare organizations to improve the quality of care, reduce costs, and provide a safer environment for patients and employees alike.
