University of Portland receives $75,000 from Elizabeth Cebula to help fund the Entrepreneur Scholars Program and the Dean’s Leadership Initiative

The University of Portland has received a $75,000 gift from Elizabeth Cebula, whose family has long and supportive ties to the University. Cebula’s gift will help fund the Entrepreneur Scholars Program and the Pamplin School of Business (PSOBA) Dean’s Leadership Initiative.


Entrepreneur Scholars are a competitively selected group of University of Portland undergraduate students from all majors across the campus who create new business ventures, and social enterprises, as well as implement innovative products and delivery models for these organizations.

The PSOBA Dean’s Leadership Initiative offers new leadership development opportunities for graduate business students, particularly those pursuing an MBA for non-profit management or a traditional MBA. The Initiative also provides support for undergraduate business majors who are completing the Leader Certificate Program through the Franz Center. It also supports leadership development for officers and aspiring officers in the student clubs in the Pamplin School of Business.

Elizabeth was married to the late Leonard Cebula ’53, ’75 MBA, a 1949 graduate of Columbia Prep who earned a business degree from the University. All four of the Cebulas’ children are UP graduates: Mike ’80 (business degree) Philip ’81 (business), Eileen Cebula Smith ’82 (communications management), and John ’86 (accounting). Elizabeth and Leonard have two grandsons with UP connections: Daniel ’13 graduated in civil engineering, and Ryan, currently a senior majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in business. In addition, Leonard’s late brother Paul ’60 was a UP graduate in engineering.
