Waive Student Health Insurance

   

 

All undergraduate students are required to carry health insurance and are automatically enrolled in the PacificSource Student Health Plan. Students who already have health insurance coverage that meet the criteria below may apply for a waiver to be disenrolled from the University-sponsored plan.

Waiver Deadlines

  • Fall 2026: Waiver must be completed by 2:00 p.m. (PDT) on August 30, 2026
  • Spring 2027: Waiver must be completed by 2:00 p.m. (PST) on January 17, 2027

The online waiver form becomes available:

  • First week of June for Fall semester
  • First week of October for Spring semester

Please have your health insurance ID card available when completing the waiver.

Important Information

  • The waiver must be completed every Fall and Spring semester.
  • If you do not submit an approved waiver by the deadline, you will be charged the $1,485.50 semester premium for the PacificSource Health Plan.
  • No exceptions will be granted after the deadline.
  • Waiver applications are reviewed to verify that your coverage meets University requirements.
  • Students whose waivers are denied will receive an email notification within 5–7 business days.
  • Approved waivers will be credited to student accounts within 5–7 business days.

Waiver Requirements

To qualify for a waiver, your insurance plan must:

  • Provide access to healthcare providers in the Portland area for both emergency and non-emergency care.
  • Cover inpatient and outpatient mental health services in the Portland area.
  • Be currently active and remain active throughout the academic year.
  • Be compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Important Notes

  • Emergency-only or urgent-care-only plans do not qualify.
  • HMO plans may qualify if guest privileges are available in the Portland area. Students must arrange guest privileges directly with their insurance provider before submitting a waiver.
  • Short-term medical plans are not ACA-compliant and do not qualify.
