The First Generation (FGEN) Program offers a variety of opportunities for first-generation students to connect, build community, and develop as leaders throughout the academic year.

FirstUP Social

Each September, we kick off the academic year with FirstUP, our annual welcome event for first-year, first-generation students. This gathering provides an opportunity to meet fellow first-generation students, connect with faculty and staff, share experiences, and begin building a strong sense of community at the University of Portland.

FGEN Annual Pinning Ceremony

Each April, we celebrate the accomplishments of our first-generation community at the FGEN Annual Pinning Ceremony. During this end-of-year celebration, graduating seniors are recognized for their leadership, achievements, and contributions to the FGEN community. We also honor the successes of all first-generation students as they conclude another academic year. The evening brings together students, faculty, staff, family members, and guests for a meaningful celebration of community, collaboration, and achievement.
