Affinity Groups
Affinity groups are an opportunity for people to connect with others who share salient aspects of their identity. These groups are particularly helpful for historically minoritized and underrepresented individuals to gather in community. Affinity groups, however, are not employee resource groups.
We are so grateful to the staff and faculty who have dedicated their time and energy to establishing and maintaining affinity groups at the University of Portland. The current active groups are listed below.
- Latinx Employees Group—contact Marija Hobbs and José Velazco
- Black Employees Group—Seeking New Leadership. In the interim, contact tshombe@up.edu
- LGBTQIA+ Employees Group—contact the AJ Van Valkenburg and Trini Sepúlveda.
- AAPI Employees Group –– contact Aimee Davidse and Elisa Majors
- Disability Affinity Group –– Seeking New Leadership. In the interim, contact tshombe@up.edu
At the University of Portland, affinity groups are led by faculty and staff on campus so that the programming and engagement remain true to the groups themselves.
Here is information on how to start an affinity group. For further questions, please contact oiedi@up.edu
