List of Awards and Descriptions

The University of Portland values each employee for their vital role they play in supporting our Mission and Values, as well as the unique gifts and talents they bring to work every day.

Each year, the University proudly recognizes employees whose exceptional contributions, dedication, and service make a meaningful impact on our campus community through the following awards:  

Rev. Charles Miltner, C.S.C. Award: Awarded to employees who have been of exemplary and outstanding service to the University. This is University of Portland's highest award and includes all categories of staff employees.

Margaret Henzi Award: Awarded to administrative or office support employees who have performed their jobs in an exemplary manner, while positively representing the University to the many and varied constituencies it serves.

Deiss/Dodson Award: Awarded to outstanding facilities services employees who exemplify the qualities of pride in their work, and dedication to the University. Beginning in 2011, the Deiss and Dodson award were combined into one award; prior to 2011, they had been separate awards.

Hooyboer Award: Awarded to outstanding professional staff members who exemplify quality and collaboration, and who make a positive impact on the University community.

President’s Citations & President’s Team Awards: May be awarded annually by the President to individuals and groups of colleagues who have been of exceptional service to the University. The President ultimately selects recipients in their sole discretion, with counsel from the President’s Leadership Cabinet, Provost’s Council, and other community members.

Pilot Newcomer Recognition: Awarded to employees who have served on The Bluff for one to three years and have displayed, early in their tenure, an exceptional commitment to teaching and learning, faith and formation, and service and leadership. Started in 2023, this recognition honors employees who demonstrate excellence in their roles and contribute to the vibrancy of The Bluff.
