Jim Berchtold ‘63
The University of Portland has known few finer alumni or friends than Jim. A 1963 graduate of The Bluff, Jim has offered extraordinary leadership, vision, and support to UP.
Along with his late wife Amy Dundon-Berchtold, Jim helped us to launch the Dundon-Berchtold Institute for Moral Formation and Applied Ethics here at UP.
And, it was their support that enabled us to design and build Dundon-Berchtold Hall, a stunning academic building here on The Bluff. Finally, just last year, Jim announced a transformational $18 million estate gift that will primarily fund scholarships and tuition assistance.
For 31 years, Jim served as a leader with U.S. Bank while also serving as Chair of the Mt. Angel Telephone Company in his hometown of Mt. Angel, Oregon.
