Counseling Services
The hub of mental health on campus, Counseling Services provides consult, crisis, and therapy appointments, teletherapy options, groups & workshops, online & self-help resources, and outreach. The Counseling team is dedicated to supporting student mental health and academic success while helping them thrive as human beings and empowering them to actively engage in their mental health journey.

Counseling Services at UP
It’s your mental health and you have choices! As an active University of Portland student, there are various ways you can access confidential counseling, teletherapy, and other mental health support on campus and beyond.

Summer Hours
Beginning May 11, 2026, the Health & Counseling Center (HCC) will transition to our summer schedule with more limited appointments. However, our phones will continue to be answered Monday through Friday during business hours throughout the summer.
May & June
Health and Counseling appointments will be available 2 to 3 days per week. Students will be scheduled for the next available appointment or connected to care off campus if needed.
July
Appointments are not available for the month of July. Voicemails and emails will continue to be monitored. If mental health care is needed, students will be connected to local care options which can also be found on our community referrals page.
Care Options when the HCC is Closed:
Students have 24/7 access to Pilot Helpline for urgent mental health support. To speak with the Pilot Helpline and get confidential support from anywhere at any time, call the Health & Counseling Center at 503.943.7134, and select Option 3.
The University of Portland has partnered with BetterMynd to provide free-to you teletherapy for eligible students.

Confidentiality Statement
The Counseling staff values our ability to provide students a safe and confidential place to seek help. Therefore, we will not disclose a student's information (including appointment history and counseling records) to parents, friends, coaching staff, or faculty unless we have signed release from the student.
Due to confidentiality concerns, our clinicians do not answer counseling questions over email. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the front desk at 503.943.7134.
