In the Learning Commons (LC) you can connect with our peer mentors in a variety of disciplines to deepen your learning through practice, questions, and review. Peer learning assistance is available to all UP students who want to reach greater levels of success in a variety of subjects.
Accessible Education Services (formerly Office for Students with Disabilities) serves over 200 students with disabilities each semester through accommodations such as extended time on exams, housing accommodations, assistive technology, and other individually-tailored accommodations, according to student need.
The Shepard Academic Resource Center provides programs specifically for our first year students as they make the transition from high school to college. These programs are designed to address the core needs of a student new to the college setting, including academic, social, and emotional experiences.

First-generation (FGEN) students are defined by the University of Portland as those who are first in their family to attend any type of college. At UP, 10 percent of the student population comes from a family with no college background.
