Summer intern at M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust
“My internship responsibilities at M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust included shadowing senior management, completing individual and group projects, attending site visits and events, and attending meetings with nonprofit leaders. I have learned a plethora of information about the nonprofit sector. There are so many diverse nonprofit organizations out there doing amazing work. I increased my skills in the areas of Microsoft Excel, networking, creating pro formas and budgets.
My favorite moment as an intern was spending a day at the Oregon coast interviewing and filming nonprofit organizations. M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust was in the process of putting together a year-end video which highlights various nonprofits in the Pacific Northwest. My fellow interns and I spent a day listening to interviews of dedicated leaders who are passionate about their work.
Internships are important for undergraduate students because they give us a glimpse into the professional world before we are even done with our degrees. Professional experience is essential to being successful in a career. This was my first ‘serious’ job and it has been a very valuable experience. I have learned what I want and do not want when it comes to the climate of my work environment.”
